Program Title:          Contracts for Integrated Project Delivery

Speaker:                 Will Lichtig, Shareholder, McDonough Holland & Allen PC

Program Abstract:

Design and construction is a risky business. Many projects end in disputes, claims, and litigation. Significant resources are wasted protecting against claims, rather than adding value to the facilities. Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) offers a different path forward. By drafting the Integrated Form of Agreement (IFOA) promoted by LCI, Will Lichtig has been at the center of the IPD movement. The IFOA is signed by the owner, designer, and  constructor, and these three parties will be later joined by select engineering consultants and trade contractors. The IFOA seeks to realign the commercial interests of all parties involved by achieving a transparent balance of project risks and rewards, and it recently served as a basis for the development of the ConsensusDocs 300 series of collaborative agreements.

LCI LA Area Chapter

The Lean Construction Institute (LCI), a non-profit research organization, was founded in August 1997. LCI's purpose is to develop and disseminate new knowledge regarding the management of work in design, engineering and construction for capital facilities. LCI has developed the Lean Project Delivery System© (LPDS), and the Last Planner® System of production control. Lean Construction is a production management-based approach to project delivery - a new way to design and build capital facilities. Lean production management has caused a revolution in manufacturing design, supply and assembly. Applied to construction, Lean changes the way work is done throughout the delivery process. Lean Construction extends from the objectives of a lean production system - maximize value and minimize waste - to specific techniques and applies them in a new project delivery process extending from project definition through design, supply and assembly.

The Los Angeles Area Chapter of LCI is being developed to provide local lean support to owners, architects and designers, engineers, contractors, specialty contractors and suppliers who are doing business in the LA Area.  We invite project delivery team members to meet together as a Community of Practice to learn, share and develop a lean community in the LA Area.
